Galaxy Quest
Galaxy Quest targets the goofy attributes of star trek with laser precision, from tim allen’s shatner avatar insistently rolling into action or taking his blouse off for no reason to sam rockwell’s guy annoying that his popularity as an expendable crimson shirt on a fictional sci-fi display dooms him to actual death within the interstellar war into which the cast gets drafted. The performances are remarkable, reckoning with thespian self-loathing for stooping to a pre-status tv paycheck (alan rickman never stretched every syllable with defeat extra than he did right here) or with the garish sexism of ostensibly modern suggests (sci-fi feminist icon sigourney weaver, reduced to repeating updates from a speakme deliver computer).
But the movie’s most dazzling accomplishment is how its send-up of famous person trek is so cautiously drawn that it may without difficulty characteristic as a celeb trek film in its own proper, and the reality that its struggle is resolved not by means of the actors but the show’s impassioned, studious fans is a high-quality tribute to the real legacy of gene roddenberry’s cult universe.
